MARIA JACOBS returns to the stage of our benefit concert for a third time this year with the Richard Sherman Trio. She is a native of Cleveland, Ohio and a graduate of Ohio State University where she majored in classical flute for one year. She then began singing professionally more than a decade ago. Raised in a musical family, (her father Mike Jacobs a drummer) Maria was exposed to live music at the tender age of six. She was raised listening to Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Rosemary Clooney, Dinah Washington, and Nancy Wilson, with whom she fondly recalls singing at Splash in Redondo Beach last year. Maria celebrates her debut release on Goblin Bee Records, entitled “No Frills,” for which she wrote the title track, and is now working on her second album to be produced by Alphonso Johnson. “No Frills” is currently played in Cleveland on WRMR, WCPN, and here in Los Angeles on HLON and RJAZ. She is currently catching the interest of a very prominent Jazz label, “MAX Jazz.” Maria is featured singing in a restaurant scene in the film “Made Up,” directed by Tony Shalhoub, and will also be featured on the soundtrack. The film is doing very well in the festival circuit, and major distribution is being developed. Besides appearing with Richard at The Golden Goose Restaurant and Jazz Club, Maria performs at other clubs, including Lunaria Restaurant and the famous Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel’s Cinegrill. Maria wishes to thank Richard for his continuous support and generosity both as a musician and a friend.
